A lesson in giving to God

Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4
The widow who gave everything she had to God.

Jesus was in the Temple. There were 13 containers in the temple for people to put their money. – Slide 1

Nine containers were for what was legally due by worshippers – the other four were for voluntary gifts. Each container was marked with the offering that could be put in it. – Slide 2

Jesus sat in a place where He could where people put their gifts. – Slide 3

Many rich people gave large sums of money. They made a big show of their giving to make sure others could see how generous they were. – Slide 4

Then a poor widow came and gave two very small copper coins – hardly worth anything at all. – Slide 5

Jesus called His followers to Him. ‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus said. ‘This poor widow gave only two small coins. But she really gave more than all those rich people. – Slide 6

‘The rich gave only what they did not need. This woman is very poor but she gave all she had. And she needed that money to help her live.’ – Slide 7
