1
Jesus was in one of the cities of Galilee. Word of Jesus’ powers to heal and His wonderful teaching spread throughout all of Israel. People traveled from as far away as Jerusalem to see and witness Jesus’ power first hand. – Slide 1
2
At that same time a man suffered because he could not walk. He had some very good friends who wanted to see him healed. They organised themselves and took the man to Jesus on a stretcher. – Slide 2
3
Jesus was very popular and drew many people so it was very hard for even the most needy to get close to Jesus for help. These friends could not get the lame man into the house to see Jesus because it was crowded. – Slide 3
4
Fortunately the paralysed man’s friends did not let this stop them from helping their friend to see Jesus. They all went up to the roof of the house. Then they took apart the ceiling to lower the paralysed man down to Jesus. – Slide 4
5
Now everyone saw the crippled man in the middle of the room. Jesus saw something else that no one else saw. Jesus saw the man’s sin and faith. So Jesus said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.’ – Slide 5
6
That shocked the religious leaders and the people. The scribes and Pharisees said to one another, ‘Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?’ They were correct in saying this. – Slide 6
7
Then Jesus, knowing what the scribes and Pharisees were saying to one another, told them; ‘Which is easier, to say, “Your sins have been forgiven you,” or to say, “Get up and walk”?’ – Slide 7
8
Then Jesus said; ‘So that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins …’ Then He said to the paralysed man- ‘I say to you, get up, and pick up your stretcher and go home.’ And he got up! – Slide 8
9
Now they were all amazed as the once lame man walked home. Jesus showed everyone that He has the power to both forgive sins and perform amazing miracles of healing. Only God has the power to do this. – Slide 9
10
The once crippled man and his friends went home glorifying God. Many people were struck with astonishment, thinking about the remarkable things they saw that day. And they too glorified God for what He did. – Slide 10
