Jesus was born in Bethlehem. As King Herod tried to kill Him an angel told Joseph to take Jesus to Egypt. After Herod died God told Joseph and Mary to take Jesus back to Israel and to the town of Nazareth. Matthew 2:7-23 – Slide 1

Jesus’ earthly father was a carpenter. So Jesus probably learned many of his father Joseph’s skills. Jesus was God’s Son but He was also human. Just like you or me He could have hurt himself with carpentry tools. – Slide 2
3
Jesus had a cousin named John the Baptist. John prepared the way for Jesus’ ministry by asking people to turn away from their wicked ways and their sin and be baptized. Jesus’ cousin baptized people in the Jordan river. – Slide 3

Jesus came to John The Baptist. When John saw Jesus he said to everyone: ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’ John 1:29. Jesus never sinned (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus did not need to repent but He asked John to baptize Him. – Slide 4
5
John baptized Jesus and then the heavens were opened and the Spirit of God descended as a dove alighting on Jesus and a voice out of heaven said, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.’ – Slide 5
6
After Jesus’ baptism He was led out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness for forty days and forty nights without food. Jesus was not only hungry but He was very weak. The devil then tempted Jesus. – Slide 6
7
The devil said, ‘If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.’ Jesus said, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”’ – Slide 7

For the next temptation the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem and had Jesus stand on the top of the temple. The devil said, ‘If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, “He will command His angels concerning You ...” – Slide 8
9
‘... and “On their hands they will bear You up, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.”’ Jesus said to the devil, ‘On the other hand, it is written, “You shall not put the Lord Your God to the test.”’ – Slide 9
10
Next, the devil took Jesus up to a very high mountain showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. The devil told Jesus, ‘All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.’ – Slide 10
11
Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”’ With that the devil left Jesus. – Slide 11

Jesus suffered with 40 days of the wilderness experience, fasting and then facing temptations. In all this Jesus was victorious over temptations and sin. Angels then came and began to help and care for Jesus. – Slide 12
