Slide 1

The soldiers divided Jesus’ clothes among them. The inner garment, woven in one piece without seams, was too valuable to divide so they cast lots for it. It fulfilled the prophecy of Psalm 22:18 ‘They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.’ – Slide 1

Slide 2

Near the cross of Jesus stood Mary His mother, Mary the wife of Clopas, Mary Magdalene and John. – Slide 2

Slide 3

Jesus said to Mary His mother. ‘Here is your son.’ And then to John He said, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, John took Mary into his home to look after her. – Slide 3

Slide 4

Those who passed by hurled insults at Jesus shaking their heads and saying, ‘You said you would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, come down from the cross and save yourself.’ The Chief Priests and elders mocked, ‘He saved others but He cannot save Himself.’ The soldiers also joined in the mocking. – Slide 4

Slide 5

One of the criminals joined in with those insulting Jesus. ‘Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!’ – Slide 5

Slide 6

But the other criminal rebuked him. ‘Don’t you fear God? We are getting our just punishment but this man has done nothing wrong.’ Then he turned and said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ – Slide 6

Slide 7

Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth. Today you will be with me in paradise.’ – Slide 7

Slide 8

At noon, darkness came over the land until three in the afternoon. – Slide 8

Slide 9

At around three in the afternoon, Jesus called out in a loud voice, ‘My God, my God why have you forsaken me?’ – Slide 9

Slide 10

A sponge filled with vine vinegar was held up for Jesus to drink. – Slide 10

Slide 11

Then, in a loud voice, Jesus exclaimed, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ He then breathed His last breath. – Slide 11

Slide 12

The Roman centurion, in charge of the crucifixion, who had been watching Jesus die, suddenly praised God and said, ‘Surely this was the Son of God.’ – Slide 12

Slide 13

Back in the city of Jerusalem, in the inner part of the temple, the curtain that partitioned off the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom. The earth shook and rocks split, breaking open tombs. The dead in the tombs were raised to life and went into the city and appeared to many people. – Slide 13

Slide 14

As evening approached and the next day was the Sabbath, Pilate gave permission for the legs of those being crucified to be broken so they would quickly die. The legs of the two criminals either side of Jesus were broken. – Slide 14

Slide 15

However as Jesus was already dead, a soldier thrust a spear into his side and His blood drained out. It fulfilled the prophecies that, ‘Not one of His bones will be broken’ (Psalm 34;10), and ‘they will look at the one they have pierced’ (Zechariah 12:10). – Slide 15

Slide 16

A good and upright man, named Joseph from Aramethea, who was a member of the Jewish council, went to Pilate and asked permission to bury Jesus. Pilate consented. – Slide 16

Slide 17

Joseph took the body down, wrapped it in linen cloth and took it to an empty tomb cut in the rock. – Slide 17

Slide 18

A large stone was rolled over the entrance. The Pharisees, aware that Jesus had said, ‘After three days I will rise again,’ asked Pilate to post a guard on the tomb. The tomb was sealed and a guard set on it. – Slide 18
