In our last episode we learnt that Jonah had disobeyed God. He refused to warn the people of Nineveh about their wickedness. He would rather God destroy their city than tell them to repent so God could save them. So, Jonah had run away in the opposite direction and set sail for Tarshish. God then sent a fierce storm to teach Jonah a lesson. When Jonah confessed it was all his fault for disobeying God, the sailors had thrown him overboard. – Slide 1

What were the chances that such a giant fish would be in the exact area of the sea where Jonah was thrown from the ship? And at exactly the right time? What were the chances that Jonah didn't drown before the great fish swallowed him? What was the chance of him surviving after being swallowed? All these things are possible because God can perform miracles and wanted to rescue His disobedient prophet, Jonah. – Slide 2

In the belly of the big fish, Jonah prayed to the Lord. He exclaimed, ‘I was in danger so I called to the Lord and Ee answered me. I was about to die but you saved me from death. Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish considering his actions and regretting his mistakes. – Slide 3

The thing that amazed Jonah the most was that God had mercy on him. Even though he deserved punishment for his disobedience the Lord had saved him. This undeserved favour caused Jonah to repent. He prayed, ‘I was thrown into the deep sea and the water was all around me. Seaweed was wrapped around my head. I thought I was going to die. I expected to suffer for my disobedience, but I was saved. From now on I will obey You. I will keep my promises to You, for salvation comes from the Lord.’ – Slide 4

God had not finished with His rescue plan. After three days and nights God caused the huge fish He had created to vomit Jonah on to dry land. – Slide 5

The Lord spoke to Jonah again saying, ‘Go to the great city of Nineveh and tell the people that unless they turn away from their wickedness, in 40 days time, I will destroy their city. – Slide 6

This time Jonah did exactly what the Lord told him and headed off to Nineveh. It was a very large city and took 3 days to walk across it. – Slide 7

Once he arrived, Jonah walked through the city preaching. ‘In 40 more days, if you do not repented of the evil things you do, God will destroy this city.’ <br/>How do you think the people of Nineveh, who were Assyrians, reacted to the message of Jonah, a Hebrew prophet of God? Well we'll find out in the next episode. – Slide 8
