When the Christians in Jerusalem were persecuted, Philip left the city and started preaching the good news of Jesus in Samaria. – Slide 1

Crowds listened intently to what he had to say because of the miracles he did. He shared with them how Jesus was the Messiah God had sent to save them. – Slide 2

People who had been captivated by the occult turned to Jesus and were set free. People who were paralysed or lame were healed in the name of Jesus. – Slide 3

A long way away in the country of Ethiopia, south of Egypt, the land was ruled by Queen Candace. – Slide 5

One of the most powerful men who worked for her was the treasurer. He was trusted and given a lot of authority. – Slide 6

The treasurer set off on a long journey to Jerusalem to worship there. – Slide 7

When he got to the temple, as he was a eunuch, he was not allowed into the inner courts but he was able to purchase a scroll with the writings of the prophet Isaiah on it. – Slide 8

After doing all he needed to do in Jerusalem, he set off on the return trip through the Gaza desert towards Ethiopia. On the way he tried reading the scroll but he found it hard to understand. – Slide 9

Just then an angel told Philip. ‘Go over to the road that runs from Jerusalem through the Gaza Desert, arriving around noon.’ – Slide 10

Philip did as the angel asked. Who should he see coming down the road but the Treasurer of Ethiopia. – Slide 11

The Holy Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go over and walk along beside the chariot.’ – Slide 12

‘Of course not!’ the man replied. ‘How can I when there is no one to instruct me?’ And he begged Philip to come up into the chariot and sit with him. – Slide 13

The passage of Scripture from Isaiah he had been reading from was this: ‘He was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before the shearers, so he opened not his mouth; in his humiliation, justice was denied him; and who can express the wickedness of the people of his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.’ – Slide 14

The treasurer asked Philip, ‘Was Isaiah talking about himself or someone else?’ – Slide 15

As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, ‘Look! Water! Why can’t I be baptised?’ – Slide 16

‘You can,’ Philip answered, ‘if you believe with all your heart.’ <br/>And the eunuch replied, ‘I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.’ – Slide 17

And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the Treasurer never saw him again. – Slide 18

The Ethiopian Treasurer went on his way rejoicing. – Slide 19

Meanwhile, Philip found himself at Azotus! He preached the Good News there and in every city along the way, as he travelled to Caesarea. – Slide 20
