Let me tell you of a time when God tested Abraham’s faith in a great way. <br/>God said to him, ‘Abraham! Take your son, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah! Offer him up there as a sacrifice on a mountain which I will show you.’ – Slide 1

Early in the morning Abraham started out with his son Isaac for the place God had sent him. – Slide 2

On the third day Abraham saw the place in the distance. – Slide 3

Abraham told his servants, ‘Stay here with the donkey while Isaac and I go up a little further on the mountain. We will worship and then return to you.’ – Slide 4

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and put it on his son. Then he took the fire and the knife in his hand, and the two of them walked on together. – Slide 5

Then Abraham’s son, Isaac, asked ... – Slide 6

‘Father? We already have the wood and fire, but where is the lamb we need for the burnt offering?’ – Slide 7

Abraham stopped and replied ... – Slide 8

‘God will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.’ They continued on together. – Slide 9

When they came to the mountain God had spoken of, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. – Slide 10

Then he tied up his son and placed him on the altar. – Slide 11

Then Abraham reached out his hand, took the knife, and prepared to sacrifice his beloved son. – Slide 12

But the angel of the Lord called to him, ‘Abraham!  Abraham!’ – Slide 13

Do not harm the boy in any way! For now it is clear that you respect God because you did not withhold your only son, from me.’ – Slide 14

Abraham looked up and saw behind him a ram caught in the bushes by its horns. So, he went over and got the ram. Abraham offered the ram as a sacrifice instead of his son. – Slide 15

Then Abraham called the name of that place, ‘The Lord provides’. The angel called to Abraham again and said, ‘I will greatly multiply all your descendants so that they will be as countless as the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will be blessed.’ – Slide 16

Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set out together for Beersheba. God had tested his faith and provided all he needed. – Slide 17
