Abram travels to the Promised Land

Terah lived in the city of Ur with his three sons Abram, Nahor and Haran. Haran sadly died. Abram grew up and married Sarai, but they were unable to have any children. Nahor married Milkah and they had a son called Lot. – Slide 1

Ur was a city on the great river Euphrates south of Babylon. – Slide 2

The Lord told Abram to leave Ur and go a land that God would give him and his family. Abram trusted God and obeyed. He travelled with his wife Sarai, his father Terah and his grandson Lot along the trade route that followed the River Euphrates. – Slide 3

When they got to Harran they settled there. – Slide 4

While in Harran, Terah died leaving Abram to look after his nephew Lot. Abram was now 75 years old. <br/>The Lord then spoke to Abram … – Slide 5

‘Leave your country and go to the land I will guide you to. If you do, you will become the father of a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous, and you will be a blessing to many others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. The entire world will be blessed because of you.’ – Slide 6

Abraham obeyed God and set out with his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot. God led them towards the land of Canaan. A group of people known as the Canaanites lived there. – Slide 7

They went as far as the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. – Slide 8

The Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘I will give this land to your descendants.’ – Slide 9

So Abram built an altar there to the Lord and worshipped Him. – Slide 10

Abram then travelled south from Shechem to the mountain east of Bethel and camped there. – Slide 11

Once more he built an altar to the Lord and worshipped Him. – Slide 12

After this, Abram travelled further south towards Hebron. – Slide 13

He found pasture to feed his flocks and herds along with the animals that belonged to his nephew Lot. They settled in the land that God had promised to give to Abram and his descendants. However, Abraham and Sarai did not have any children and were too old to have a family of their own. How would God be able to keep His promise to them? – Slide 14
