The story that you are going to hear is in the Bible and is about a man named Noah who lived a very long, long time ago. – Slide 1
2
At that time people had become very evil and always thought of doing harm to each other. God even regretted that He had created people. – Slide 2
3
People stole, lied and were very violent. No one wanted to obey and love God... – Slide 3
4
… no one that is, except Noah, his wife and their three sons with their wives. Noah’s sons were named Shem, Ham and Japheth.
God told Noah He would send so much water on the earth that all the people and animals would be destroyed. But God loved Noah and and told him to build a great Ark so that he and his family could be saved along with a male and a female from every kind of animal. – Slide 4
5
A lot of wood was needed to build the Ark. Noah and the three sons worked together using gopher trees to build the large boat. It is a tree species that no longer exists in our time. – Slide 5
6
God told Noah that they should make the Ark 150 metres long, 25 metres wide and 15 metres high. Everyone was very careful to build exactly as God had said. – Slide 6

Many heard about what Noah and his sons were doing. They mocked and laughed loudly when Noah explained what God had told him. Noah said that they must repent of their sins, ask for forgiveness and start obeying God. Then they would also be saved from the flood. But no one cared what Noah said. – Slide 7

At that time people lived much longer than they do today. Finally, after about 100 years’ hard work, the great Ark was finished with many different chambers and a door on one side of the Ark. – Slide 8
9
God told Noah and his family to gather food for themselves and all the animals, then store it inside the Ark. All eight of them were so happy and did exactly as God said. – Slide 9
10
Then God said that they should get a couple of all the animals and bring them into the Ark. There would be one female and one male of each kind of animal. – Slide 10
11
The Ark had three levels and windows at the top so that daylight entered the whole Ark. There was room for all the many animals, Noah and his family and all the food. After much work, everyone was happy that all the animals and all the food were in the right places inside the Ark. Noah was then 600 years old. – Slide 11
12
Outside the entrance, people continued to mock and laugh at Noah and his family. ‘You are big fools who think there is going to be a flood,’ they shouted and laughed heartily. But – bang! – Slide 12
13
The door of the Ark suddenly slammed shut. It was God who closed the door. – Slide 13
14
The sky became completely dark … – Slide 14
15
… and rain poured heavily for 40 days and nights. – Slide 15
16
The water continued to rise and rise. All the people who were not in the Ark and all the animals that did not live in water were swallowed up by the flood. – Slide 16
17
After 40 days it stopped raining. The whole earth was covered with water so that no mountains were visible anymore. – Slide 17
18
Inside the Ark all eight people and the animals were safe. They were so happy and grateful to God that they had been saved. They thanked God that they had food to eat and asked for God's blessing. – Slide 18
19
All the animals had the food that each one needed. – Slide 19
20
Noah and his family had a lot of work to do taking care of all the animals. Cows needed milking so Noah and his family had milk. – Slide 20
21
When night came, everyone slept well except for the animals that loved to be awake at night, such as the night owls. – Slide 21
22
God looked after the people in the Ark. After 150 days, God caused a wind to blow so that the water began to recede. – Slide 22
23
Suddenly a very loud noise was heard in the Ark. It had run aground high on Mount Ararat. – Slide 23
24
Noah wanted to know if the ground was dry and sent out a dove. But the dove soon returned to Noah. There was no place for the dove to rest on the earth. – Slide 24
25
Seven days later Noah let the dove fly out again and in the evening the dove returned with a fresh olive leaf in its beak. Everyone was very happy because they knew that the water had dropped so much that there were plants that could be seen.
After another seven days Noah let the dove fly out again and this time it did not return to the Ark. Everyone understood that the water level had dropped even more. – Slide 25
26
When Noah opened the roof of the Ark, everyone could see to their great joy that the ground was dry. – Slide 26
27
God then told Noah the wonderful news that it was time for Noah and his family and all the animals to leave the Ark. They had all been in the Ark for just over a year. Everyone was so happy. – Slide 27
28
Noah and his family thanked God for helping and saving them in such a wonderful way. God promised that He would never again let a flood come upon the whole earth. – Slide 28
29
As proof of His promise, God made the rainbow with its seven different beautiful colours. The seven colours of the rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. ‘Every time I let the rainbow appear in the sky, I will remember my promise,’ said God. Noah died when he was 950 years old. His sons Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with their wives, had children and all the people who then lived and now live on earth are descended from them. – Slide 29

In the Bible it says that God will judge the earth once more, but not with water but with fire. But He has sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross and take all our sins and our punishment on Himself instead of us. In this way, God now wants to save all people. In the time when Noah was alive, it was the Ark that saved the people. Now we have Jesus, God's own Son, in whom we can believe and pray to receive forgiveness. He is our only Saviour who gives us eternal life. (John 3:16.) – Slide 30
