In the Bible, in the book of Acts, we read of two people who told a lie about the money they had and what they had done with it. God wants us to tell the truth at all times and not try to deceive in any way. – Slide 1

In the first Christian church everyone shared everything, so that no-one was poor or hungry. They sold what they had and brought the money to Peter and the disciples. – Slide 2

Ananias and Sapphira decided that they would secretly keep half the money they had made from a sale, for themselves and only give some of the money to the disciples to share. – Slide 3

Ananias gave the money to Peter and told him how much he had made from the sale, but he was lying. Peter knew it and said, ‘Ananias why are you being so deceitful?’ – Slide 4

‘You can do what you like with your money, but you haven’t just lied to us, but also to God.’ When he heard this, Ananias fell down and died. The young men wrapped him up and buried him. – Slide 5

Sapphira came in a few hours later and Peter asked her about the amount of money she and her husband got from their sale. Sapphira also told the same lie as her husband. – Slide 6

‘Why are you being so deceitful? You are telling a lie and God knows. Here are the men who have just buried your husband and they will bury you too.’ – Slide 7

Then Sapphira also fell down and died and they buried her next to her husband. Everyone who knew about Ananias and Sapphira remembered not to tell lies. – Slide 8
