Jesus made the fishing port of Capernaum by Lake Galilee His base for His early teaching ministry. – Slide 1
Among the many fishermen were Simon (later named Peter) and his brother Andrew who worked in one boat and John and his brother James who often worked with them using another boat. – Slide 2
One day, as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds surrounded Him. There were two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. Jesus then sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. – Slide 3
When Jesus had finished teaching, He said to Simon, ‘Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.’ – Slide 4
‘Master,’ Simon replied, ‘we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. – Slide 5
‘But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.’ – Slide 6
This time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! – Slide 7
They shouted for help and James and John in the other boat came alongside. – Slide 8
Soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. – Slide 9
Simon fell to his knees before Jesus and said, ‘Oh, Lord, please leave me. I’m such a sinful man.’ Andrew, James and John were also amazed at the catch of fish. <br/>Jesus replied to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!’ As soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. – Slide 10
