Jesus sends his disciples out

Jesus' disciples go out in pairs to share the good news.

Jesus wanted to train His disciples to go out and share the good news with others. So He put them into teams of two to go out and teach, heal and deliver – all the things they had seen Jesus do. – Slide 1

So off they went in their teams of two into the surrounding villages with the message of God’s great love for everyone. – Slide 2

Jesus told His disciples, ‘Take nothing for the journey except a staff. Don’t take any bread, or bag, or money in your belts. Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. Do not be afraid of the people you meet. If you acknowledge me before others, I will acknowledge you before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me be-fore others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. – Slide 3

‘Whenever you enter a house and they welcome you, stay there until you leave that town. Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes God who sent me. – Slide 4

‘And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.’ – Slide 5

They went out and preached that people should repent or they would face God’s judgement. – Slide 6

The disciples anointed many sick people with oil and healed them. They delivered people who had come under the control of evil spirits.  They shared the good news of Jesus everywhere. They returned with great joy, amazed that the authority Jesus had given them had made such a difference to people’s lives. Jesus wants us to be a witness for Him wherever we go. – Slide 7
