Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

Jesus tells a parable about a rich man and Lazarus the beggar.

Jesus told the Pharisees that you cannot serve God and money. They sneered at Him because they loved money. Jesus then told a parable. – Slide 1

‘There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.  – Slide 2

At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, who was covered with sores. He was hungry and longed to eat the leftover food from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. – Slide 3

Both the rich man and Lazarus died. – Slide 4

The angels carried Lazarus to Abraham’s side. – Slide 5

The rich man was in torment in hell and looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus. He shouted, “Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.” – Slide 6

Abraham replied, “Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. Between us and you is a great chasm that no-one can cross.” – Slide 7

The rich man replied, “Please, Father Abraham, send Lazarus to my father’s home. I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don’t end up in this place of torment.’ – Slide 8

Abraham replied, “Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.” The rich man replied, “No, Father Abraham! If someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.” – Slide 9

But Abraham said, “If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t listen, even if someone rises from the dead.” ’ – Slide 10
