Rahab and the spies

Joshua sends spies into Jericho.

After Moses died, Joshua the son of Nun became the leader over the nation of Israel. God said to Joshua ‘Enter the Promised Land. Be brave and strong because I am with you wherever you go.’ – Slide 1

Then Joshua told his officers to go to everyone in the camp and tell them, ‘Get some food ready, soon we cross the Jordan river.’ – Slide 2

Next Joshua sent two spies into the Promised Land to see what it was like before they entered. He wanted them to find out how well the city of Jericho was defended. – Slide 3

The spies found a place to cross the river and entered the city of Jericho. – Slide 4

The two spies met a woman called Rahab who let them stay in her house. – Slide 5

The King of Jericho found out the spies were with Rahab and sent a message telling her to hand them over. But she said that the men had left the city before the gates were closed. – Slide 6

But the spies were hiding on the roof. Rahab had covered them with stalks of flax so they could not be seen. – Slide 7

Later that evening Rahab told the spies that the people in Jericho feared God. They knew He had divided the Red sea for HIs people. They had heard God had defeated King Og and King Sihon and that He was powerful enough to give the land to the Israelites. – Slide 8

The men escaped through a window in Rahab’s house that opened out in the city wall. They used a red cord to climb down to the ground. Rahab begged them to save her family when they invaded the city. The spies told her to hang the same red cord out of her window so they would know where she lived and that her life would be spared when they attacked the city. – Slide 9

When the spies returned to Joshua they told him everything that had happened and said, ‘The Lord has given us the land. All the people are terrified of us!’  <br/>Joshua was very happy. And when they captured the city they spared Rahab’s life. – Slide 10
