Jesus heals the wild man

Jesus delivers a wild demon-possessed man.

Jesus with His disciples traveled by boat across the Sea of Galilee to the region of the Gerasenes. At this time much of this area was inhabited by Gentiles (Romans, Greeks and Syrians). – Slide 1

A wild man ran up to meet Jesus as He stepped ashore. The wild man lived among the dead who were buried in caves. He was so strong he broke the chains of anyone who tried to restrain him. Night and day he would scream and hurt himself with stones. – Slide 2

The wild man bowed before Jesus and yelled, ‘What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!’ Jesus was not afraid of this wild man. – Slide 3

Jesus asked him; ‘What is your name?’ And he said to Him, ‘My name is Legion; for we are many.’ The demons inside this man knew Jesus and that He came to seek and to save. They feared Jesus’ power and what He would do. – Slide 4

On the mountain nearby there was a large herd of pigs eating. So, the demons begged Jesus saying, ‘Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.’ Jesus gave them permission to go. – Slide 5

The demons went out of the wild man and into the herd of 2000 pigs. Immediately the pigs went crazy. They all rushed down the bank and drowned in the sea. The wild man was now set free of the terrible demons. – Slide 6

The men taking care of the pigs ran back to the city and told everyone what happened. Crowds went down to the sea shore to see Jesus and the once mad man. By Jesus power the mad man was totally different. – Slide 7

The once-mad man was sitting down, clothed, and in his right mind. This was too much change for them and they became frightened. They asked Jesus to leave because they could not understand what had happened. – Slide 8

Jesus came to seek out the mad man and save him. He completed His work and started to leave as they requested. The man who had been demon possessed begged Jesus to let him go with them. – Slide 9

Instead Jesus said to him, ‘Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.’ – Slide 10

The man went home to his city in the Decapolis and told both young and old what Jesus had done for him. He was a witness for His Lord and everyone was amazed because they remembered what he was like before. – Slide 11
